|Title:||Barcelona 1983: Chile Report|
Panel at the Conference on medical aspects of the 1983 Chile report. The Conference held at the Faculty of Medicine in Barcelona, Spain, on the medical aspects of the 1983 Chile report. May 25, 1983.
In 1983 Amnesty International published its report Chile: Evidence of Torture, describing the use of torture in that country as systematic and widespread. This report was based on the findings of an Amnesty International delegation which visited the country in 1982 and included two doctors who carried out in-depth medical examinations of 19 people, 18 of whom alleged they had been tortured. They found that the results of the medical examinations were consistent with the allegations of torture.
From right to left: Dr. Javier Ruiz; Maria Pilaro Perez, President of AI Spanish section; Dr. Ole Rasmussen, from Danish medical Group of Amnesty International; and Javier Zuniga, member of staff at Amnesty International's International Secretariat. All of them were delegates to Chile.
