Bassel is sitting on a couch with his leg bandaged and a walking crutch. He was injured in secondary blasts caused after a coalition airstrike struck the weapons depot in Mount Nuqum on 11 May 2015.
Amnesty International undertook a crisis response mission in May 2015 soon after airstrikes on Mount Nokum which took place on May 11 2015. The attack was the latest in a series and hit a weapons depot, killing and injuring civilians. Air strikes by a Saudi Arabia led coalition on the armoury / arms depot near the Yemeni capital Sanaa in Mount Nokem was reported to have killed 69 people and wounded 250 others.

In May 2015, an Amnesty International Crisis Response Researcher visited Yemen to investigate the impact on civilians of air strikes carried out by the Saudi led coalition. In March 2015, a coalition of countries led by Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes against the Houthis and allied military units loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Yemen.
